Student Member Advisory Committee

Our Student Member Advisory Committee (SMAC) is comprised of a dedicated group of student members who provide ICSC with guidance and insight on issues relating to the development, implementation and quality of our student-related programs and resources.

As our student membership has grown to over 5,000 individuals, we have implemented a formalized leadership structure to represent the growing needs of this very important constituency. Given these diverse needs and competing priorities of the student membership, ICSC will select an array of candidates from a pool of submitted applications. Applications are closed for 2023 and will reopen Spring 2024.

SMAC Structure & Terms

ICSC will publish the application process to the general student membership. There will be up to 10 selected advisory positions. Selections will occur each spring before ICSC LAS VEGAS. Terms to last one year and no longer than three terms. Each committee member will join a work group and work on the described project throughout their commitment. The committee will meet monthly to provide ICSC feedback and discuss the work group’s progress.

Committee members will help guide student programming offered by the ICSC Foundation.

SMAC Eligibility

  • Remain an active ICSC student member in pursuit of a degree as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student from an accredited university or college
  • Demonstrate commitment to helping peers thrive inside and outside of the classroom as they pursue professional interests in commercial real estate with a strong interest in retail
  • Submittal of an application to ICSC staff

SMAC Responsibilities

  • Participate in monthly conference calls providing feedback and guidance on the development, planning and effectiveness of student-focused programs and resources
  • When possible attend ICSC events in your region (ICSC will provide complimentary registration for one regional event and ICSC LAS VEGAS.)
  • Collaborate with the other members in your work group toward the stated outcomes of the group
  • Assist ICSC in reaching out to academic associations and real estate groups
  • SMAC Chair to meet with ICSC Foundation Board on an ad hoc basis
  • Each member will be expected to attend the Student Member Advisory Committee once a month, meet with their work group, and work toward the work groups stated goal. This will require approximately 3 to 5 hours every month.
