Student Member Advisory Committee

ICSC's Student Member Advisory Committee (SMAC) is a group of select student members representative of our university connections.

Applications to join our Student Member Advisory Committee will open from March 30 – April 17, 2026.

SMAC members will spend the year providing ICSC with advice, insight and feedback on our student programs and resources. This is your opportunity to guide how ICSC supports the over 8,000 ICSC Student Members.

In our efforts to create a pipeline of new talent into the retail real estate industry, we need to hear from student leaders. ICSC will select an array of candidates from a pool of submitted applications each spring.

SMAC Structure & Terms

ICSC will publish the SMAC application and make selections each spring. Up to 15 students will be selected to represent their college or university on the committee, and no college or university will be represented by more than one student. A committee member’s term lasts one year, and no member may serve more than two terms on the committee.

The committee will meet throughout the academic year to provide ICSC with feedback, participate in professional development, and be a resource to other student members.

SMAC Eligibility

  • Remain an active ICSC Student Member in pursuit of a degree as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student from an accredited university or college for the full academic year
  • Demonstrate commitment to helping peers thrive inside and outside of the classroom as they pursue professional interests in commercial real estate with a strong interest in retail
  • Must be a rising junior, senior or graduate student

SMAC Responsibilities

  • Provide feedback and guidance on the development, planning and effectiveness of student-focused programs and resources
  • Offer peer-to-peer support to ICSC Student Members
  • Share news about upcoming ICSC opportunities and events with members of their academic program, student organizations, and communities  and on social media channels
  •  Participate in exclusive discussions with leaders in the retail real estate industry
