Mini-golf chain moves to U.S.

November 19, 2019

Mini-golf operator Puttshack, which already operates three units in London, will open its first U.S. location in 2020 at an Atlanta mixed-use development.

The upscale, tech-infused mini golf experience will open a 25,000-square-foot location at The Interlock, a $450 million mixed-use development in Atlanta’s West Midtown neighborhood. Puttshack will feature four unique nine-hole competitive mini golf courses complemented by food-and-beverage offerings and a private event space for hosting social and corporate events.

Created by the same executives who founded experiential concepts Topgolf, Flight Club and Bounce, Puttshack aims to tap what it calls the growing market for competitive socializing. Puttshack combines its patented ground-breaking technology with a an immersive social environment it says elevates the game of mini golf into a cutting-edge, high-energy mini golf experience.

After opening its first location in 2018, Puttshack has grown to three London locations and is seeking global deals. “As we expand into the U.S., Atlanta is a must-have market for Puttshack – and West Midtown is the perfect fit,” said Joe Vrankin, CEO of Puttshack, in a press release. “Our social entertainment experience is unlike any other – we’ve been blown away by the response to the concept in London, and we have no doubt we will see the same in Atlanta.”

The Interlock, in Atlanta's West Midtown neighborhood, will also operate a 50,000-square-foot incubator space with a mission of promoting and growing tech startups in the southeast

Scheduled for completion in 2020, The Interlock will include more than 200,000 square feet of office space, 100,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 350 apartment units, 70 single-family homes and a 161-key Marriott Tribute Portfolio boutique hotel. Georgia Technology Ventures, which will operate a 50,000-square-foot incubator space with a mission of promoting and growing tech startups in the southeast. Additionally, WeWork will debut its sixth Atlanta location at The Interlock, and will occupy three floors across 118,000 square feet to accommodate more than 1,800 desks for its members.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to announce the addition of Puttshack to The Interlock,” said Justin Latone, senior vice president of leasing for S.J. Collins Enterprises. “The high level of activity in both their innovative mini golf experience and best-in-class food and beverage offering is exactly the type of concept we seek for this high-energy, urban and mixed-use setting. Not only is it what we search for from a merchandising standpoint but it’s also what consumers want.”
