Franchise businesses are helping landlords fill small-shop space around the U.S. According to the International Franchise Association, these are the top five retail brands, based on percentage increase in three-year unit growth for 2015–2017.

1. CycleBar

Specialty: Indoor-cycling studio
Began franchising: 2015
Three-year growth rate: 524 percent
Current store count: 174


2. F45 Training

Specialty: Group fitness in a 45 minute, high-intensity, circuit-training workout
Began franchising: 2013
Three-year growth rate: 321 percent
Current store count: About 1,100 globally, including roughly 365 in the U.S. and Canada
