Amazon.com is helping drive traffic to Kohl’s stores. The department store chain launched a test last October that enables customers to return items purchased on Amazon to its five Chicago-area stores. These reported an 8.5 percent traffic boost versus the traditional Kohl's stores, according to Fortune.
Nearly 60 percent of the shoppers who returned these Amazon-bought goods to a Kohl’s store were either new to Kohl’s or had not visited a Kohl’s store since the summer immediately before the pilot. By comparison, roughly 40 percent of visitors to the traditional Kohl's stores were considered new at the time of the test. Shoppers also appeared to spend more time at those stores that took the Amazon returns.
Kohl's and Amazon have yet to announce any plans to expand the test.
