Day Trading Attention for the 21st Century: Advertising Is Easy 

Ask the average person if they could come up with a great idea for a commercial, and most will say yes. That’s because the bar for 99 percent of advertising is so low. But if you ask them if they could write a hit comedy TV show or create an Instagram account with three million followers, almost no one will say yes. Entertaining is hard. But people actually care about entertainment; no one cares about marketing. We easily tune it out or skip it. In this session, Mike Cessario, the CEO and Founder of Liquid Death, will discuss the ability to generate outsized returns in the modern media landscape with an entertainment-first approach to brand-awareness and brand-loyalty.

Join this interactive session to explore the complexities of incorporating residential properties into existing retail developments through a series of mock scenarios. Working in smaller groups, attendees will analyze real-world-inspired cases that highlight both the opportunities and challenges of mixed-use development. Each scenario is designed to spark discussion around key factors such as zoning, market demand, design constraints, infrastructure, and community impact. Participants will evaluate what makes each scenario attractive from a financial, social and planning perspective—while also identifying potential roadblocks, including regulatory hurdles, tenant dynamics and construction logistics. To enrich the conversation, participants will be seated in small groups with an aim to balance a variety of professional backgrounds, encouraging cross-disciplinary insights and collaborative problem-solving.

In the wake of natural disasters like hurricanes, floods and wildfires, communities face not only physical devastation but also economic disruption—particularly in commercial and retail sectors. This session offers targeted guidance for retail owners, architects, engineers, contractors and city officials involved in the redevelopment process. It focuses on rebuilding infrastructure, restoring commercial vitality and creating more resilient and adaptive communities.  

Participants will explore strategies for post-disaster recovery that address both immediate reconstruction needs and long-term planning. Topics include designing resilient buildings, navigating permitting and code updates, leveraging funding and insurance resources, and coordinating across public and private sectors. The session will also examine how to balance speed with sustainability, and how to ensure equitable redevelopment that serves diverse populations and businesses.  

Through real-world examples and practical tools, attendees will gain insights into the collaborative nature of recovery and the critical roles each stakeholder plays. Whether revitalizing a downtown corridor or rebuilding neighborhood retail, this session will equip you with the knowledge to rebuild smarter, stronger and with greater community impact.

Lexington Market in Baltimore is the oldest continually operating market site in the United States. There has been a public market on the site since 1782. In 2020, construction began on the newest iteration of the market. The owner (Baltimore City through Lexington Market Inc.), the fee developer (Seawall Development) and the architect (BCT Design Group) will discuss the challenges and triumphs of the design and construction process. The session will be a panel type discussion, with the owner moderating and the fee developer and architect responding to the moderator’s questions.
