The Atlanta-based chicken chain is opening its first stand-alone store in Canada, a franchised store on Toronto’s Bloor Street. Dished Toronto

Conn’s HomePlus
This home-furnishings retailer will open two new stores, totaling 88,600 square feet, in Birmingham, Ala. These are the company’s third and fourth stores in Alabama. Conn’s now operates a total of 135 units across 14 U.S. states. Retail Insight Network

Dick’s Sporting Goods
Dick's says it will expand its fleet to 728 this month, with the openings of a store in Kennewick, Wash., and in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. Sporting Goods Business

Dollar General
Dollar General has rolled out mobile checkout capability to 250 of its nearly 16,000 stores. During the first half, the company added about 20,000 coolers across the store base, to accommodate food sales. Supermarket News

Lakeshore Learning Materials
Lakeshore, a 60-store direct seller of children’s educational toys, opened its first pop-up, a 200-square-foot temporary store at Mall of America that features hands-on play stations. Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal

M.M.LaFleur
This direct-to-consumer apparel brand will open its first brick-and-mortar shop: a 500-square-foot store called M.M. to Go, at Brookfield Place, in New York City. WWD (subscription required)

Marine Layer
The California-based apparel retailer will open a store on New York City's Columbus Avenue, between 69th and 70th streets. ILoveTheUpperWestSide.com

Sears Holdings
By mid-December, the retailer will close an additional 100 Sears and Kmart stores, beyond the 26 the company has already said it will shut in October. WILX

Target
The discounter will open a small-format Target Express store in downtown Iowa City, Iowa, near the University of Iowa campus, by summer 2020. KCRG

Walmart
The country’s largest retailer said it would stop selling ammunition that can be used in military-style assault rifles and would discourage its shoppers from openly carrying guns in its stores. The New York Times
