Retailers are crashing the party, turning Amazon Prime Day into a mini Black Friday by matching the online giant's deals.
J.C. Penny, Macy’s, Target and Walmart are among several major retailers that offered discounts this past Monday — Amazon Prime Day — Business Insider reports. Other retailers, including Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Home Depot and Staples, pledged to match Amazon.com’s deals that day.
Still, Prime Day, which is now in its fourth year, does not come close to matching Black Friday when it comes to sales. Last year Prime Day generated about $1 billion in sales, according to Cowen & Co., while e-commerce sales alone exceeded $5 billion last Black Friday.
