ICSC announced the creation of the Valerie Richardson Advancement in Retail Award during ICSC LAS VEGAS 2026 to support emerging women leaders in the Marketplaces Industry.
Inspired by Richardson’s career and leadership — including her tenure as ICSC COO prior to her retirement in December, her current role on the ICSC Foundation Board of Directors, her past service as ICSC chair and her 40 years of leadership experience in retail real estate — the award recognizes rising professionals who demonstrate a commitment to growth while advancing retail real estate. The one-year program is designed to provide both recognition and tangible support to women shaping the industry’s future.
Valerie Richardson, who retired from ICSC in December, currently serves on the ICSC Foundation Board of Directors. A past ICSC chair, she brings 40 years of leadership experience in retail real estate.
“Val’s a treasure in the retail real estate industry … and someone I’ve had the honor to call a friend for many years,” ICSC president and CEO Tom McGee said in announcing the award. “I’m honored to announce the Val Richardson Advancement in Retail Award, which will recognize a woman in retail who exemplifies a passion for learning, collaboration and initiative.”
Eligible candidates must be active ICSC members with at least three years of experience in retail real estate and currently working in an area like leasing, development, legal, finance or property management. Nominees must be put forward by a current or former retail member of the ICSC Board of Trustees.
The award includes a complimentary trip to one ICSC+ event, access to high-level networking opportunities, mentorship through quarterly engagements with retailer trustees, Next Generation Leadership Network membership and increased visibility within the ICSC community. Recipients also will receive as much as $5,000 to support professional development.
The inaugural recipient of the award has not yet been announced.
