Economic and Environmental Policy Committees hold quarterly meeting in Las Vegas

December 10, 2021

As part of ICSC - Here, We Go. 2021, ICSC’s Economic and Environmental Policy Committees conducted in-person and virtual sessions to discuss issues of concern to the Marketplaces Industry.

The Economic Policy Committee, chaired by Ed Eickhoff, welcomed Michael Fratantoni, chief economist for the Mortgage Bankers Association, who provided the committee with a capital markets overview to the set the stage for the meeting. Other priorities discussed included federal and state tax policy, COVID economic relief, federal and state cannabis developments, organized retail crime, incentives and mandates for electric vehicle charging stations, mall redevelopment and the 2020 bankruptcy rules that ICSC secured to help landlords and tenants address COVID-related rent concessions.

The Environmental Policy Committee began their meeting with outgoing Chairman Todd Berlinghof handing leadership to incoming Chairman Gerald Pouncey, who intends to continue the good work the committee has done familiarizing EPA staff with ICSC and our issues. Much of the meeting was spent discussing upcoming changes to EPA rules regarding the Waters of the U.S., as well as the growing patchwork quilt of regulations related to Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), electric vehicle and building code mandates in California, plus an overview of other state legislative trends.

ICSC’s public policy committees meet quarterly, with in-person events in December and June and virtual meetings in March and September. If you would be interested in learning more about this volunteer leadership opportunity, please contact Jennifer Platt at jplatt@icsc.com.
