Two longtime ICSC volunteers have died, and more people news

Specialty leasing expert Deborah Kravitz, known in the industry as The Cart Lady, died on April 28. She most recently served as president of consulting firms Provenzano Resources Inc. and Pro Retail Inc. Kravitz’s résumé included time as East Coast specialty leasing director for Simon, regional store director for Claire’s and buyer for Bonwit Teller. She served for five years as a member of ICSC’s Temporary Tenant Conference Committee and traveled the world teaching seminars about specialty leasing.

Longtime ICSC volunteer and accomplished real estate finance attorney Dick Goldberg died on May 5 at age 80. Goldberg, who served several terms on ICSC’s U.S. Law Conference organizing committee, focused on real estate development, financing, leasing and acquisitions during his 27 years at Philadelphia real estate firm Ballard Spahr. Before working for the firm, he served as a vice president at The Rouse Co.

CBRE forms mall repositioning advisory practice

CBRE has formed a team within its mall and large-format retail practice to assist owners with the repositioning and reimagining of traditional malls using the company’s proprietary location intelligence technology. The technology combines such data as a property’s surrounding demographics, retail spending information, logistics value, segmentation, employment data, customer traffic patterns and competitive landscapes. Mark Hunter, managing director of CBRE’s mall and large-format retail platform, and Todd Caruso, senior managing director retail investor services, will lead the initiative. To best advise clients on how to use the data for leasing, redevelopment, financing, sales and securing public incentives, CBRE created a team that includes experts across its services platform: Americas Industrial & Logistics Services leader and Retail Services leader John Morris, location intelligence and retail analytics managing director Tahirah Mahan Thomas, senior managing director of project management Brad Sanders, senior director of development and project management Sam Garden, senior vice president and mall tenant representation leader Adam Cummings, executive vice president of capital markets George Good and executive vice president of location incentives Eric Stavriotis.
