PREIT drives traffic to small-business tenants’ websites

April 21, 2020

PREIT has launched a Shop Local page on its malls’ websites to promote small-business tenants’ e-commerce platforms. The effort is meant to aid such tenants while the landlord’s 18 malls are closed.

The Shop Local page directs visitors to the websites of tenants, many of which offer unique and limited-availability products. The company says about 28 percent of its tenant portfolio is comprised of local or regional companies. PREIT notes more than 1 million consumers visit its web sites and its 18 malls’ digital media channels annually.

“Our local businesses are among the enterprises hardest hit by this pandemic,” said Joseph F. Coradino, chairman and CEO. “Without robust digital marketing budgets, they are at a disadvantage to their national counterparts. The retail ecosystem is critical to economic recovery, and we wanted to be sure we took steps to support those most in need, including putting our marketing power behind our tenants.”

PREIT already had been posting on social media and sending e-mail blasts to consumers in support of the exterior-facing restaurants and essential retailers that remain open at its properties.
