ICSC members met with lawmakers in Illinois and Michigan this month as part of the organization’s ongoing state advocacy efforts on behalf of the Marketplaces Industry. The events were a coordinated effort with ICSC’s lobbying partners at MHSA in Lansing and MAC Strategies in Springfield.
In Illinois, legislative meetings focused on supporting small businesses, addressing organized retail crime (ORC), encouraging adaptive reuse/redevelopment opportunities and ensuring balanced environmental policies that support continued investment in local communities. ICSC also partnered with the Illinois Retail Merchants Association (IRMA) during its annual Business Day, which included a member luncheon featuring Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, and an evening reception attended by legislators and industry leaders.
In Michigan, members discussed legislation aimed at expanding housing opportunities, reducing frivolous litigation costs for property owners and businesses and strengthening protections against gift card fraud and ORC.
