DowntownDC BID’s Gerren Price

The DowntownDC Business Improvement District named Gerren Price to president and CEO. Price, who joined the BID as director of public space operations in 2018, has served as acting president and CEO since November 2021. Previously, he served as senior associate for national community strategies at The Annie E. Casey Foundation. He began his career managing a national youth mentoring program before serving in the Office of the Chancellor for District of Columbia Public Schools, the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education and the District of Columbia Department of Employment Services.

JLL’s Nicki Hines

JLL hired Nicki Hines as executive managing director of retail corporate services. She brings more than 30 years of experience and will provide full-service real estate consulting to global brands and national retailers. She previously was founder and president of The Hines Group and also was a partner in GCD Consultants, representing brands like Coach, Microsoft, Nike, Tory Burch and Tiffany & Co.

Cilker Orchards Management Corp.’s Mary Egan

Cilker Orchards Management has promoted Mary Egan from real estate asset manager to vice president of real estate to oversee the company’s commercial real estate portfolio, leasing efforts and third-party property management division. Previously, she worked for Biagini Properties.

Continental Realty Corp.’s Rachel Lee

Continental Realty Corp. hired Rachel Lee as leasing manager in the commercial division. She joins from a role as associate vice president of portfolio management for LaSalle. Lee had interned for Continental Realty while attending Dartmouth.

Continental Realty Corp.’s Monica Johnson

Continental Realty Corp. hired Monica Johnson as senior leasing associate in the commercial division. She previously worked as vice president for Zuckerman Co., a boutique retail leasing company serving the Southeast. Johnson will handle marketing and leasing for several CRC mixed-use and retail assets in that region. She’s also worked for Fuqua Development and Brand Real Estate.

ShopCore Properties’ Chris Wood

ShopCore Properties promoted Chris Wood from senior director of asset management to vice president of asset management. He also has worked as vice president of asset management for RPAI and as an asset manager for Inland Real Estate Group.

Halpern Enterprises’ Matthew Oppenheimer

Retail leasing, management, acquisitions and development company Halpern Enterprises has promoted Matthew Oppenheimer from director of acquisitions to president, charged with enhancing the value of the company’s existing portfolio and growing through acquisitions and development. He’s a third-generation family employee at the company. He joined in 2012 and became director of acquisitions in 2019. Before Halpern, he worked for Glenwood Development Co., Rosenberg Capital Advisors and Colliers. Oppenheimer succeeds Bill Brown, who served as president for 14 years.

Stan Johnson Co.’s Riley Sharman

Riley Sharman joined Stan Johnson Co. as a director in Houston. He has specialized in the sale of multitenant shopping centers, healthcare properties and single-tenant triple-net lease assets. He previously worked for Marcus & Millichap as a senior associate of investments and was a 2021 Sales Recognition Award winner there. He also has worked for Colliers. He’s a member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and Trees for Houston.

Ripco Real Estate’s Mark Kaplan

Ripco Real Estate promoted Mark Kaplan to president. He also will continue to serve as COO. Kaplan joined the company in 2017 and launched its property management division in 2019 and investment sales and debt/equity division in 2020. The following year, Kaplan led the opening of Ripco’s Miami and Tampa, Florida, offices. In June 2022, Kaplan played a key role in Ripco’s first acquisition: restaurant brokerage firm BCD.

Vestar’s Miles Sanchez

Vestar promoted Miles Sanchez to COO. He joined Vestar in August 2021 as executive vice president of operations. President and CEO David Larcher said: “His experience and knowledge transcend every department, and he has proven to be an effective leader.” Previously, Sanchez led the Western U.S. for Weingarten Realty.

Jalen Fox has graduated from Marquette University with a bachelor of science in marketing and real estate and joins CBRE as property management market operations specialist based in New York City.

Axiom Retail Advisors’ Terry Bortnick, Paul Bartlett and Stephanie Skrbin

ICSC members Terry Bortnick, Paul Bartlett and Stephanie Skrbin, as well as other colleagues, have formed Axiom Retail Advisors to offer brokerage services from four Southern California offices: Irvine, El Segundo, Inland Empire and San Diego.

NewMark Merrill Cos.’ Greg Giacopuzzi

NewMark Merrill Cos. promoted Greg Giacopuzzi to vice president of leasing and development. He will oversee leasing across the company’s portfolio and will work on business development and acquisition opportunities for ground-up development and redevelopment. He started with NewMark Merrill out of college over 10 years ago.

Majestic Realty’s Reon Roski

Majestic Realty has named Reon Roski CEO. She joined the company as senior counsel in 2007 and became managing director later that year. She is the third Roski generation to lead the company, which is approaching its 75th anniversary. The company has expanded of late from industrial to other sectors, including retail. She also has worked for Glaser Weil and Allen Matkins and for the Chinese government on real estate.

SRS Real Estate Partners’ AJ Cordero and Nicholas Paulic

AJ Cordero and Nicholas Paulic have joined SRS Real Estate Partners’ National Net Lease Group as vice presidents and opened an office in Honolulu. Both join from Sequoia Realty Group.

Pine Tree’s Shelley Xu

Pine Tree promoted Shelley Xu to vice president of portfolio management. A senior portfolio manager there since June 2020, Xu now will oversee one of Pine Tree’s retail real estate funds. She will be based at the company’s Oak Brook, Illinois, office. Xu also is pursuing a master of business administration degree at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School.

MacKenzie Ventures’ Brendan Gill

MacKenzie Ventures has named Brendan Gill president and COO to oversee its eight divisions. Clark MacKenzie, who founded MacKenzie and Associates in 1968, transitions to chairman emeritus, and Gary Gill, who joined in 1977 and became president in 1986, becomes chair and CEO. Brendan Gill “has earned the respect of his peers and colleagues within our company and the industry by demonstrating the utmost integrity, real estate knowledge, passion and work ethic,” said Gary Gill. Brendan Gill will retain his position as president of MacKenzie Management Co., and he will be president of MacKenzie Services and MacKenzie Multifamily Management.

TSCG’s Jeremy Kral, Dana Dowsett, Eric Battistone, Ryan Waddell, Patrick Frease, Steve Ellis, Stephen Leo and David Oremland

TSCG bought Florida’s Southeast Retail Group, which was established in 2016. SRG’s three partners join TSCG: Jeremy Kral as executive vice president and Dana Dowsett and Eric Battistone as vice presidents. ICSC members who also are joining TSCG from SRG are Ryan Waddell, Patrick Frease, Steve Ellis, Stephen Leo and David Oremland.

JLL’s Erika Schanke

JLL hired Erika Schanke as executive vice president of global retail business development. Previously, Schanke was vice president at Odyssey Retail Advisors, focused on landlord clientele and luxury retail partnerships. She also worked for Cushman & Wakefield for more than 13 years, ultimately leading crossborder and multimarket initiatives for the Americas as managing director of retail. Schanke will work alongside JLL global business development lead for industrial Charlotte Elstob through JLL’s Retail Industrial Task Force.

Cushman & Wakefield’s Mark Gilbert

Mark Gilbert has rejoined Cushman & Wakefield, as vice chairman and Americas retail capital markets leader. He’s based in the Miami office and previously worked for Cushman & Wakefield from 1997 to 2021. Cushman & Wakefield national retail leader Barrie Scardina said: “Adding Mark into a leadership position tying together our retail group with our capital market teams is a win for our clients and our firm.”

Stark Enterprises’ Bob Stark

After 43 years at the helm, founder and CEO Bob Stark is handing over the reins of Stark Enterprises to his son Ezra. Bob Stark will stay on as president and chair, and Ezra Stark will transition from COO to CEO. “I’ve had a pretty good run,” Bob Stark joked. “As much as I’d love to continue on as CEO, I’m more than content with the culture and legacy that I have built here.” Ezra Stark said: “I’d like to express direct gratitude to my father for being my mentor, for being my teacher, for being one of my best friends and entrusting me to lead the company and expand upon his company and his legacy.”

Matter’s Mike Wethington

Matter hired Mike Wethington as general manager of UnCommons, a $400 million, 40-acre mixed-use community opening in Southwest Las Vegas this year. He will manage day-to-day operations, oversee tenant development, prepare annual budget and management plans and more.

Strategy+Style’s Karen Fluharty

Karen Fluharty, founder and chief strategist of Strategy+Style Marketing Group, has launched Parents With A Plan, a nonprofit that aims to develop scalable, supportive housing for the growing over-21 neurodiverse population. Fluharty has recruited a group of developers — including John Klein, former CEO of Simon Premium Outlets — and other experts to create model communities for adults with autism and related developmental disorders.

Truist’s Nate Pesenti

Since BB&T and SunTrust merged in December 2019 to create Truist, vice president of commercial real estate Nate Pesenti has handled the sale of overlapping real estate. Within three months of closing the doors on its last operating branches this year, Truist will have sold all the real estate slated for disposition. Since 2020, Pesenti has managed the disposition of 381 properties, representing more than 2.5 million square feet, for over $440 million.

He worked most recently as a leasing manager for JLL and previously as managing director of operations and head of marketing and retail property management for LBG Real Estate Cos. He has opened and managed retail and mixed-use developments for 20 years.

Cary Beale has joined Poline Search Partners, which has rebranded from Poline Associates, as executive recruiter. Previously, he was senior vice president for Franklin Street, where he hired more than 35 brokers and salespeople. He also worked as vice president of leasing for DDR Corp.’s Atlanta office.
