ICSC Hosts ORC Education Program for Senate Staffers

May 8, 2024

ICSC joined The Home Depot and EDENS in hosting a half-day educational program titled “The Impact and Challenges of Organized Retail Crime” for Senate staffers on May 6.

“ORC cases are on the rise in cities large and small throughout the country,” Abby Jagoda, ICSC vice president of Public Policy, said. “ICSC members should feel encouraged by the interest and enthusiasm among Senate staff to be part of a legislative solution.”

The event featured a site visit to Home Depot and information sessions by loss prevention experts. Discussion included techniques employed by organized theft groups, challenges investigators face as they seek to apprehend those behind these criminal operations and possible legislative solutions to the crisis.

“This unique program gave a bipartisan group of Senate staffers from over 15 different offices the opportunity to get into the field and hear directly from industry professionals about the challenges they face in their stores and at their centers every day,” Moutray McLaren, ICSC vice president of Public Policy, said. “We appreciate our partners at EDENS and The Home Depot joining our effort to cut through the noise of Washington and elevate this conversation amongst policy makers."
