ICSC Hosts “Day at the State Capitol” Events in WA, TX, FL, CO, MD, OH and MI

May 2, 2025

So far this year ICSC has hosted multiple “Day at the State Capitol” events to provide members with opportunities to engage directly with state legislators and advocate on behalf of the Marketplaces Industry. These events facilitated discussions on key policy issues and underscored the vital role marketplaces play in local economies.

ICSC Government Relations chairs and committees organized events in seven states:

  • Olympia, WA - Co-hosted with the Washington Retail Association (WRA) and the Washington Business Properties Association (WBPA)
  • Austin, TX - Co-hosted with the Texas Retailers Association (TRA)
  • Tallahassee, FL - Co-hosted with NAIOP
  • Denver, CO - Co-hosted with NAIOP, BOMA, and ABC Rocky Mountain
  • Annapolis, MD
  • Columbus, OH
  • Lansing, MI

In each state, ICSC members highlighted key issues, including the growing threat of organized retail crime—particularly gift card fraud—and the need to preserve incentives for brownfield redevelopment. They also advocated for reducing business rent taxes and made it clear that new taxes would harm local businesses.

“Day at the State Capitol” events are a unique opportunity to invest in the legislative success of the industry while networking with other ICSC members. To learn more or organize an event in your state, please contact Mallie Reynolds at mreynolds@icsc.com.
