ICSC Announces 2016 Researcher Awards

April 19, 2016

NEW YORK, April 18, 2016 – The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) is pleased to announce the 12 global recipients of this year’s ICSC Researcher Awards. This honor identifies researchers or research advocates who have demonstrated a significant commitment and contribution to ICSC’s research programs.

The award winners have had an instrumental role in ICSC’s research, including but not limited to: writing, planning, participating, speaking at ICSC Research events, advising, serving as data collectors for ICSC’s Country Fact Sheets, and fostering industry benchmarking through data sharing or mobilizing peers in this effort.

Like last year, this recognition is split into two different types of awards. The Career Service Award is presented to five researchers or research advocates who exerted noteworthy long-term impact through various events and initiatives on behalf of the research community and the industry as a whole. The Gold Medallion Award is presented to seven researchers or research advocates who made similar contributions, but in recent years.

“These recipients join an international roster of researchers from North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America who have gone the extra step in sharing their time, talents and efforts with the ICSC community over the years,” said ICSC Research Staff Vice President Jean Lambert.

The recipients of this year’s awards in the Career Service category are:

  • Maureen Atkinson, J.C. Williams Group Limited (Canada)
  • Renato Cavalli, Prassicoop Soc. Coop. (Italy)
  • Milton Cockburn, Shopping Centre Council of Australia (Australia)
  • Tim Corzine, Macerich (U.S.)
  • William McCollum, WJMcCollum Company Inc. (U.S.)

This year’s recipients of the Gold Medallion Award are:

  • James Brown, JLL (U.K.)
  • John Crombie, Triovest Realty Advisors Inc. (Canada)
  • Meredith Darnall, GGP (U.S)
  • Cristina Vigoya Linares, Marca Tactica (Colombia)
  • Cecilia Matos, Macy’s, Inc. (U.S.)
  • Eri Mitsostergiou, Savills Studley (Romania)
  • Morgan Parker, Dubai Holding (Hong Kong)

ICSC’s Researcher Award is endorsed by ICSC’s five research advisory group chairs and vice chairs. This award was established in 2007, following approval by five research committees—the North American, Canadian, European, Mexican and Asian-Pacific.

This year’s winners will be honored on May 23 at RECon Las Vegas during the annual Fortune Tellers reception. The European award winners will also be honored at the ICSC European Conference in Milan.

About ICSC

Founded in 1957, ICSC is the global trade association of the shopping center industry. Its more than 70,000 members in over 100 countries include shopping center owners, developers, managers, investors, retailers, brokers, academics, and public officials. The shopping center industry is essential to economic development and opportunity. They are a significant job creator, driver of GDP, and critical revenue source for the communities they serve through the generation of sales taxes and the payment of property taxes. These taxes fund important municipal services like firefighters, police officers, school services, and infrastructure like roadways and parks. Shopping centers aren’t only fiscal engines however; they are integral to the social fabric of their communities by providing a central place to congregate with friends and family, discuss community matters, and participate in and encourage philanthropic endeavors.
