Canada’s first mall gourmet food market to open in fall

July 13, 2018

Oxford Properties Group is opening what it bills as Canada’s first high-end food market in a mall, this fall, to offer gourmet groceries as well as eateries.

Market & Co., as the new enterprise is called, will operate in a 40,000-square-foot space at Oxford Properties’ Upper Canada Mall, in Newmarket, Ontario, reports YorkRegion.com.

Market & Co.

Market & Co. The market will comprise 18 merchants and three restaurants

"With the growing popularity and prominence of urban food markets worldwide, we saw an opportunity to pioneer this concept within a shopping center,” said Oxford Properties head of retail Bradley Jones, speaking to YorkRegion.com. “We have designed the market so guests can purchase quality groceries and specialty items to take home, enjoy food experiences at the market and take part in special events at the state-of-the-art, built-in demonstration kitchen."

There will be 18 merchants in all, reports YorkRegion.com, including Bake Three Fifty, Humble Roots Organic, Ma’s Best Quality Soups and Newmarket Olive Oil, plus three full-service restaurants: Canada’s first MidiCi The Neapolitan Pizza Company, and Union Chicken and Amano Kitchen, both of which are concepts of chef Michael Angeloni.
