App makes parking more convenient at Mall of America

November 6, 2017

Parking at Mall of America just got easier thanks to a new app. Shoppers wishing to reserve a convenient spot near the mall entrances in the parking garages can pay $6 to reserve a space for two hours — paying an additional $3 for each additional hour. Twenty spots in all have been set aside for reservations.

While offering shoppers more convenience, the service provides landlords a way to make some money out of their parking. Using MyPark, app users can reserve parking just a few minutes before they arrive, to six months in advance, MyPark President and CEO Luis Mayendia explained to the Star Tribune in Minneapolis. “It allows the guest to have control and not have to hunt for a space,” he said.

Users select a spot, then receive an email 15 minutes before their reservation. If they are running late, they tap a button to delay their arrive by another 15 minutes. When they arrive, they hit another button that provides them access to the space.

“It allows the guest to have control and not have to hunt for a space,” he said. “We have people who have already reserved for Black Friday.”

The Mall of America has about 13,000 parking spaces in all. Mayendia says his Miami-based app company may expand it to other malls in the Twin Cities in the coming year.
