Access to Capital Remains a Problem for Minority-Owned Small Businesses

February 14, 2023

In an interview with The Hill, U.S. Small Business Administration head Isabella Guzman warned that minority-owned small business owners’ lack of access to capital is costing the U.S. economy “hundreds of billions of dollars in economic output.” Guzman talked about how government interventions like changes to the Paycheck Protection Program can improve access to capital for small and minority-owned businesses. She also discussed the SBA’s efforts to increase awareness of opportunities like Community Navigators, an American Rescue Plan program to make it easier for underrepresented and underserved entrepreneurs to access programs they need to recover, grow or start their businesses.
