ICSC’s CEO’s Letter to the U.S. Administration (March 18, 2020)

Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Dear ICSC Members,

Since I communicated with you last Friday, developments concerning the COVID‑19 pandemic have significantly accelerated. Federal, state and local government and health officials are implementing unprecedented steps to limit the risk of COVID‑19 community spread. We applaud the efforts that are taking place, and our industry stands ready to support our nation as we confront this public health crisis.

These public health and safety actions, while necessary, have required many retailers, restaurants, gyms and other service providers to close, putting an insurmountable strain on our members, and we believe federal government action is urgently needed. In consultation with ICSC's Chair, Vice Chair, members of the Executive Board and various other industry leaders, last night, we delivered this letter to President Donald Trump, members of the Administration and the Senate and House leadership. It articulates a request for immediate federal support of our industry and also makes clear that further support will be required. A lack of federal action will jeopardize the industry and cause long-term damage to financial markets, rampant unemployment and irreparable harm to communities across our country.

ICSC, in conjunction with many of you, is proactively speaking with the Administration and Congress. You have my commitment that we will tirelessly advocate for our industry in this unprecedented time of national crisis. We are also actively advocating for the industry with the Canadian government.

I wish you and your families continued safety and health. Thank you for your continued support.

 Sincerely,

Tom McGee
President & CEO
