SLS is coming to you!

December 11, 2019

The ICSC Office of Global Public Policy (GPP) is making an exciting change to the 2020 Strategic Leadership Summit (SLS). Rather than asking everyone to travel to Washington, DC, we are bringing our federal advocacy efforts to you!

This decision to focus on local meetings is a response to the current political environment in Washington, DC, which has constrained significant movement on legislative priorities. Furthermore, we believe that by using the 2020 election year when federal officials are focused on interactions back at home, we can increase long-term relationship building, highlight the breadth and scope of the industry, and include more ICSC members in the advocacy process. GPP plans to return SLS to Washington, DC, in 2021 to welcome the incoming 117th Congress.

We have begun the process to plan for the 2020 SLS Fly-Out, working with ICSC state volunteer leadership to organize meetings for Members of Congress in targeted states during scheduled in-state work periods. Whenever possible, members of the ICSC GPP team will be coming out to participate in these meetings alongside our members. It is important to note that this federal advocacy effort will not take the place of the “Days at the State Capitols” initiative, which focuses on state legislators.
