Mall landlord PREIT has launched a program to promote Black-owned tenants within its portfolio during and beyond Black History Month. Called Support Black-Owned Business and Brands 365, the program makes it easier for consumers to do just that.
The REIT has empowered its property teams to create custom pages on their websites to highlight Black-owned retailers, restaurants and pop-ups there. That adds to the other retail categories each property’s website already lists like fashion, cosmetics, fragrance lines, entertainment and athletic.
Also in 2021, at least two-thirds of PREIT properties plan to host Black-Owned Business Showcases for entrepreneurs. PREIT tested the concept in the fall at Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids, Michigan, according to chairman and CEO Joseph Coradino. “Black-owned businesses have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic,” he said. “Consumers can now make even more informed buying decisions that will directly support Black entrepreneurs in our community.”
