Kroger will open a food hall at its new supermarket in downtown Cincinnati in September.
Kroger says it hopes the food hall, which is to occupy the store’s second floor and to include seating for 100, will function as a destination that encourages shoppers to linger, according to a report in The Enquirer.
Among the tenants at this food hall will be Kroger’s own Kitchen 1883 and such local operators as Eli’s BBQ and Queen City Whip.
The new Kroger will be, akin to its urban-friendly, Chicago-based Mariano's format, about half the size of a typical supermarket: at only about 45,000 square feet. The Kroger is part of an 18-story building called 1010 On The Rhine that also houses a six-story parking garage and nearly 150 apartments.
