Demolition kicked off on the 25,000-square-foot Borders store at Capital City Commons. The developers are transforming the building into a five-level, 125-room Springhill Suites by Marriott hotel. Prestige Development Group has plans to open a 20-acre, 550,000-square-foot mixed-use center called The Gateway, by 2023. The plans call for four buildings with stores and restaurants at ground level, plus some apartments and hotel space above.
