ICSC Releases Super Saturday Intentions

WHO:          International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC)

WHAT:        Survey of Holiday Shopping Intentions for Super Saturday (December 21)  

WHEN:        The ICSC Super Saturday Survey was conducted online December 12-15, 2019 with a demographically representative U.S. sample of 1,005 respondents.

RESULTS:

  • Approximately 132 million people will shop either in-store or online on Super Saturday.
  • Over half of adults plan to visit a mall or shopping center on Super Saturday, including 67% of Millennials – significantly more than older demographics.
  • On average, shoppers plan to spend $413 on Super Saturday.
  • 94% of shoppers will spend with retailers with a physical presence representing 73% of total expenditures that day.
  • 49% of shoppers will spend with pure-play only retailers representing 22% of total expenditures. 
  • 44% of Super Saturday shoppers will use click-and-collect and 70% are likely to spend additional money when picking up their item(s).
  • 91% of Super Saturday shoppers will spend on goods and 83% will spend on services. 
  • The majority of people (83%) will buy holiday gifts, but 60% will buy goods not intended as holiday gifts.
  • Deals drive Super Saturday shopping: 45% of Super Saturday shoppers say deals/promotions are the reason for shopping that day.
  • 29% of Americans intend to shop on Christmas Eve.
