American Eagle to open more Aerie stores after strong 4Q sales

March 8, 2019

American Eagle Outfitters is set to open between 60 and 75 Aerie stores in the coming year, particularly in California and Texas.

Aerie, which sells women’s underwear and swimwear, posted fourth-quarter comparable-sales growth of 23 percent, on top of 34 percent comp-sales growth it posted at this time last year.

“I am once again thrilled with another quarter of record performance for the Aerie brand,” said Jennifer Foyle, Aerie’s global brand president, during American Eagle’s quarterly call with investors. “This was also our 17th quarter of double-digit sales growth. It's truly gratifying to see consistency in Aerie's growth as we continue to gain market share.”

American Eagle comp sales for the quarter rose by 3 percent.

American Eagle operates about 1,000 stores across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, China and Hong Kong, and it ships wares out to about 80 countries worldwide through its websites.
