15 retail developments proceeding across the U.S.

1. Glendale, Arizona

The city council approved Diversified Partners’ planned En Fuego mixed-use development. The 12 acres will include nine lots for restaurants or retail. Daily Independent

2. Cupertino, California

Development firm KT Urban is bulldozing the 71,000-square-foot, retail-focused Oaks Center to build a mixed-use complex with 20,000 square feet of retail and 294 units of seniors housing. The Mercury News

3. Colorado Springs, Colorado

The Equity Group is building a 50,000-square-foot, five-building retail center called Creekwalk. Completion is scheduled for March 2021. Nekter Juice Bar and Orangetheory Fitness are among the tenants that have signed on. The Gazette

4. Jacksonville, Florida

Regency Centers is moving forward with its 3.25-acre East San Marco development, which will include a 39,200-square-foot Publix, a 1,400-square-foot liquor store, a 10,100-square-foot retail building and an 8,200-square-foot retail building. A one-story garage will sit under the Publix. Jacksonville Business Journal

5. North Port, Florida

Phase one of the Downtown Wellen town center will include a Publix supermarket, four restaurants, office space above retail, a rooftop bar and a kiosk area for food trucks. Developer Mattamy Homes is rebranding the former West Villages master-planned community as Wellen Park. Herald-Tribune

6. Orange County, Florida

Unicorp National Developments will add a retail center called The Mark to its 21-acre Horizon West development. Plans call for 95,568 square feet of retail and 4,700 square feet of outdoor seating across 10 buildings that range from 2,525 square feet to a 25,400-square-foot multi-story restaurant building. A gastropub will serve as anchor tenant. OrangeObserver.com

7. South Kohala, Hawaii

Meridian’s $370 million, 150,000-square-foot Waikoloa Plaza is set to open this summer after two years under development. Foodland will anchor the center. West Hawaii Today

8. Des Moines, Iowa

Macerich is redeveloping the 117-acre Southridge Mall into a mixed-use development. The company will transform the former Toys R Us anchor into a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs medical outpatient clinic and the former Sears anchor into a Genesis Health Clubs fitness center and youth basketball facility. City leaders hope amenities like restaurants and a hotel will follow. Des Moines Register

9. Covington, Kentucky

CovTech Industries plans to convert Latonia shopping center into a mixed-use complex. The former Value City Furniture and Burlington anchors will become offices, and the company will seek out small-shop tenants to fill the center. WCPO 9

10. Rutherford, New Jersey

Several retail chains scheduled to open this spring at the American Dream complex, such as Abercrombie & Fitch and Hermes, have announced delays. Anchor Saks Fifth Avenue now will open in March 2021. The center, which opened its Big Snow ski and snowboard park in October, closed due to COVID-19 on March 17. Landlord Triple Five is negotiating with retailers for the 50,000-square-foot space originally slated for Barneys New York before the luxury department store chain liquidated. WWD

11. Toledo, Ohio

Amazon bought the former Southwyck Shopping Center from the city and plans to build a $25 million facility to deliver within a 45-minute radius. WTOL 11

12. Dauphin County, Pennsylvania

Triple Crown Corp. is redeveloping the former 132-acre Blue Ridge Country Club into a senior-friendly mixed-use community called Blue Ridge Village that will open in November. The development will include CVS, Tide Cleaners, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Great Clips, a bank, Starbucks and other commercial tenants, plus 108 single-family homes, 128 townhomes with a community clubhouse, 160 apartments, an assisted-living facility and a 32-acre park. 13. Arlington, Tennessee

Focal Point Investment LLC plans Arlington Falls, a seven-acre project with a strip retail center. It will include 15 1,200-square-foot bays; two larger, standalone buildings for bigger tenants; 11 6,000-square-foot office buildings for a medical-office park; and a proposed 60,000-square-foot assisted-living facility. 14. Hanover County, Virginia

Capital Up Investments plans to open in summer 2021 a mixed-use center called Montpelier Villa that will include 29,000 square feet of retail, 7,800 square feet of restaurant space and 4,400 square feet of office. Richmond BizSense

15. Madison, Wisconsin

Joe Krupp wants to demolish the 26,300-square-foot Lakeside Shopping Center and two adjacent retail buildings to build a $40 million, four-story project that would include 2,900 square feet of commercial space, a fitness center, 191 apartments and underground parking. The Journal Times
