First-week sales bode well for retailers this month.
Same-store sales grew by 6.2 percent for the week ended July 6, according to Econoday's Redbook — up from the previous week's strong pace of 5.5 percent. Retail sales for June will be posted by the Census Department next Tuesday amid early expectations for moderate strength.
