U.S. retail sales grew 5.7 percent last week: Report

February 5, 2019

Same-store sales at U.S. retailers grew by 5.7 percent year on year for the week ended Feb. 2, according to Econoday's Redbook. This is a 0.1 percent decline from the prior week's pace, and the weakest reading since September.

Month-to-date sales against the prior month declined by 2 percent. The full-month year-on-year growth pace declined by two-tenths of a percentage point, to 6.3 percent. Sales are moderating from their peak of 9 percent growth in December.
