U.S. commercial construction rose in January: Report

March 13, 2019

Spending on private construction of commercial property climbed in January, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Builders forked out some $86.2 million on commercial space during that month. This is up by 2 percent from the month before, but down from the 3.5 percent increase of January 2018.

The industry spent an additional $27 million on amusement and recreation projects: up by 0.1 percent from December and by 9.2 percent from January 2018. Total U.S. construction spending, meanwhile, was at about $1.3 billion, up by 1.3 percent versus December and by 0.3 percent from a year ago.
